Introducing Catherine Dixon
Catherine Dixon joined the NSPCC this week as director of the new Legal and Governance function. Catherine is also the Society’s General Counsel and Company Secretary.
Catherine lists meeting her teams and other colleagues in the organisation as one of her priorities. She said: “I want to gain a good understanding of the key issues that are affecting the NSPCC and where I can use my skills and experience to make a difference. I also want to work together with my teams to realise the organisation’s strategic goals. I am very customer focused so I will want to hear about what users of my teams services need.”
Generally, Catherine’s role will be to ensure that the organisation benefits from timely and comprehensive legal advice. She also manages the Internal Audit and Inspection Service working with the Director of Internal Audit as well as supporting the Society’s governance structures, and ensuring Trustees are supported.
Catherine returns to the UK after more than three years in Canada where she worked for Vancouver Coastal Health Authority, one of the largest health authorities in Canada. Prior to this, she was a director at Bupa in the UK.
In her own time, Catherine leads a very active life, which she merges with her interest in helping young people to fulfill their potential. She said: “When I first came to Canada from the UK I took some time out to take a group of teenagers on an expedition to Peru. I am a mountain leader and kayak guide- as well as a lawyer! I also guided women, who are the survivors of abuse often during childhood, in the mountains to do trust building and various other activities. It gave me a greater insight into the needs of individuals who may require assistance from organisations such as the NSPCC.”
