NSPCC Latest Campaign

Following the tragic death of Baby P, one of the latest NSPCC campaigns is to highlight the plight of all endangered children by asking people to take positive action.

But although Baby P is an awful case, the real horror behind this needless death is that he is just one of many children killed each year in such circumstances. In fact, on average, one child a week is killed in this country by abuse, or neglect.

So the NSPCC is encouraging as many people as possible to take positive action by emailing their members of parliament and signing petitions. The NSPCC thinks enough is enough and more should be done to protect vulnerable children.

Firstly, send an email to your member of parliament, expressing your horror over Baby P and asking he, or she, to make sure they make it an important issue in Parliament.

Then ask all you're friends to get involved as well; asking them to also email their MPs and their friends. The more people that ask other people, the more that the campaign will grow and flourish.

NSPCC, which has over 100,000 active campaigners, actively lobbies for the laws needed to help bring about a fundamental change regarding how children are treated.

All types of people help out the NSPCC, from all walks of life, so if you feel you really want to help, then contact them and see what you can do to do your bit.

And one of the best ways to join is to sign one of a number of regular NSPCC petitions.

It reads: "We, the undersigned, call on UK manufacturers and retailers to ensure that all computers sold in the UK have child protection software pre-installed and set to a high level of security."

By signing the petition, you would join over 130,000 other people who become an official NSPCC campaigner. And in return we will send you an email about four times a month, outlining our plans and future campaigns. Sometimes, we will ask you to email a key decision maker, including Ministers of State who we feel need to be aware of the strength of people's feelings in this country to the fate many of our children.

You will also receive our campaigning newsletter, Facing Forwards, twice a year and it is usually posted out to our list of contacts.

And don't be afraid to give the NSPCC your feedback on how you think they are doing with their campaigns; it all goes to help one of the U.K.'s largest charities get across the right message.

So, if the Baby P affair has touched you, then make sure you do something about it. Email your MP, tell your friends and colleagues to do the same, and sign their petitions.

Bluntly, if the Baby P tragedy is forgotten, it will happen again and again. Do something about it and help the next Baby P survive.
