ActionAid

ActionAid

ActionAid is one of the UK's largest international development charities, helping poor people in over 35 countries in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean.

Child sponsorship is key to ActionAid's work. If we all sponsored a child in the developing world, imagine the difference we could make. The world's poorest people would get a chance to create a self-reliant future. Poverty could be a thing of the past.

Child sponsorship helps a child's whole community by providing access to safe, clean water, healthcare, education and an escape from a life of hardship and disease. Sponsors will see how their money is working through regular updates from local fieldworkers and personal messages from the child they sponsor.

Sponsor a child today

For just 50p a day, you'll make a real impact on the life of a child and their community. Your monthly gifts will help local people plan and complete projects such as wells, health centres, irrigation schemes and schools. And you'll be able to see exactly what your support has achieved through regular updates from overseas.

ActionAid was founded in 1972 to fight poverty around the world and their work reaches millions of people in Africa, Asia, and the Americas.

Dedicated to fighting poverty and marginalization, ActionAid works with the poor, fighting the injustice and inequity that cause it. With over 30 years behind them, ActionAid creates a partnership with people living in poverty, local partners, and other organisations in order to help communities throw off poverty.

ActionAid focuses on fighting the causes of poverty, not just the result of it, focusing on the following 5 priorities:

  • Education
  • HIV and Aids
  • Food
  • Emergencies
  • Women and Girls

ActionAid is also works to change policies and practices that exacerbate poverty by lobbying the UK government and other influential institutions such as the World Bank, World Trade Organisation (WTO), IMF, and EU.

  • Gifts in Action: The next birthday or anniversary present you give, could be one that keeps giving. ActionAid offers a variety of donation products that you can purchase. Your gift will arrive to the loved one in the form of a card or e-card, describing the impact that the donation will make. Say you care about someone by making a donation in their name to:
  • Help the goat breeding programme in Mozambique.
  • Equip schools in Ethiopia
  • Provide beehives and accessories to people in Ghana
  • There are dozens of other products, click here to learn more.

  • ActionAid Credit Cards: Help the world as you shop with Visa’s ActionAid credit card. All you have to do is open the card and Visa will donate on your behalf. After opening the card ActionAid will receive £15. Then, after your first purchase, during the first 6 months, ActionAid will receive another £2.50. For every £10 spent after that, ActionAid receives a further 25p. Making a difference has never been so easy! Learn More.

  • In Memoriam: Turn a time of great sadness into an opportunity to celebrate life. The loss of a loved one is a tragedy; now you can help bring long-term change to the world’s poorest people in the name of your dearly departed. This is a gift who’s impact will be remembered long after bouquets have faded. Learn More.

  • Legacies: How will you be remembered? ActionAid would like you to remember the poorest members of our global community next time you draft or revise your will.
